Hailing from several generations of labor activists and leaders, Ed Harkins spent 33 years in the building trades as a graduated apprentice, journeyman, foreman, general foreman, field steward, and apprentice instructor. He served for 12 years on the LEAP Committee for the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and on the Pennsylvania Political Action Committee for Boilermakers Local 13. As Political and Legislative Director/PAC Chair, he lobbied at the local, state, and federal level for labor, construction, energy, and other policies, and tracked votes of elected officials and positions of candidates seeking endorsements and campaign contributions from the Boilermakers union. A member of the Democratic Party for over 20 years, Ed Harkins has served as precinct committeeman, Vice-Chair of Philadelphia’s 55th Ward Democratic Committee, and an attendee of the Pennsylvania State Democratic Committee.
